ENTERPRISE CUSTOM OPENNRM:  How Much Will it Cost?

If you are in the market for a custom software application, you undoubtedly want to know how much it is going to cost to build. We get asked this question every day , so let’s start with some data.

Average Custom Software Application Costs

First and foremost it is important to remember that the core OpenNRM technology is open source and there is no initial license or fee.    Building a custom application using the OpenNRM core software is very common.  In fact, most of our clients need varying degree of customization to meet their business objectives.  For example:  custom design and style,   GIS layers, datasets and web services, data integration, dashboards and more.  The only way to find out for sure is to request a free quote.

What Factors Determine the Cost of a Software Application?

We only employ highly skilled and experienced American software designers and engineers. The average experience level of our team is 15 years. So payroll is going to be our biggest expense. If you have a fairly large project, it is going to take us longer to define and design it. If your project is very complex, it is also going to take longer to understand, document, design and build. So in reality, time is what drives the cost of a project up.

Time and Material or Fixed Price?

In our industry a lot of companies build custom software on a time and material basis (also known as hourly). In this model you the client pays for the actual time spent, so the risk of the project is completely shifted to you. In a fixed price engagement (the kind we almost always do), the cost of your project is determined before we start your project, and it always includes a small buffer to cover unexpected items that will come up. In this model the risk is shifted to us, so our job is to understand your project clearly before we get started. We’ve been doing it this way for two decades, and have lots of happy customers who can attest to the benefits of a fixed price.
